Isolation of Fluoroquinolones Resistant Salmonella spp. from Stool Samples of Patients Attending General Hospital Minna and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital, Minna, Nigeria

Typhoid fever continues to be a major health problem despite the use of antibiotics and development newer antibacterial drugs. This study aim was isolate fluoroquinolones resistant Salmonella spp from stool samples informed consenting patient attending General Hospital Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist in Minna Niger State Nigeria. A total 450 were collected Hospital. The results showed that 69 (30.4%) sample positive for species. On basis age children within range 0-10 recorded highest prevalence 22.7% followed by 51-60 having 19.4%, >60 had 16.7% 21-30 11-20 similar (10.1% 10.3% respectively) while 31-40 least 7.8%. There isolates species Identified, 65(94.2%) Resistant used. resistance shown Pefloxacin 62 (89.9%) lowest Ciprofloxacin 27 (39.1%). exhibited 52 antibiotic patterns ten tested with multiple index (MARI) ranging 0.3-1.0. Molecular analysis carried out on 5 representative identify their strains. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay identified strains enterica subsp. arizonae strain ATCC 13314, serovar Typhi 2018K-0756, bongori SL18, GH3Rp they all fluoroquinolones.
